Two men pretending to be gardai enter elderly man's home

Gardai are advising people to be on alert after an incident last week where two men, claiming to be gardai, entered the home of an elderly man.

They are reminding people to always ask for identification and if in any doubt to contact gardai.

At around 11.30am on Tuesday, two men believed to be in their forties called to the home of an elderly man in the Moynalty area, purporting to be gardai. They looked around the house for cash but left empty-handed. It is not known what vehicle they were using.

Gardai immediately sent out a text alert locally to let locals know that these men were in the area, claiming to be gardai. No further incidents were reported.

Anyone with any information on the incident or who noticed suspicious activity in the area around that time is asked to contact Kells Garda Station on (046) 9280820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
