Support building for Proposal B

Meath GAA will back Proposal B at Special Congress which takes place this weekend.

And last night Meath, along with Kildare and Tipperary, declared that they will be supporting the plan.

"After consulting with all our stakeholders such as players, coaches, club delegates, and the officers of the County Committee, Meath GAA has decided to back 'Proposal B' at the GAA Special Congress," stated the Meath PRO Ciaran Flynn.

"We believe that supporting this proposal is in the best interest of the members of Meath GAA and the wider GAA community."

Sixty per cent of the secret ballot will be needed for it to pass the proposal.

On Monday night, Louth came out in favour of Proposal B, following on from fellow Leinster counties Offaly and Westmeath also backing the motion.

Cork and Clare have also indicated they will vote in favour.

Under Proposal B, there would be a league-based championship with each team playing seven games.

As part of the plan preliminary All-Ireland qualifiers would feature second and third in Division 2 taking on the winners of Division 3 and 4.

Quarter-finals would be the top four teams from Division 1 against the fifth-placed in Division 1, Division 2 winners and winners of the preliminaries.

Teams that don't qualify for the All-Ireland series from Division 3 and 4 would enter the Tailteann Cup.

Provincial championships would be retained, but as spring competitions.

The GAA Special Congress will take place in the Hogan suite on Saturday 23rd October , 11am to 2pm.

* On the local front Lar Wall has stepped down as Gaeil Colmcille manager after seven years in charge of the senior team.

A highly successful time with the club winning 5 trophies. Lar took charge of 147 games, winning 117 of those an amazing 80% win rate.
