Major rally against proposed hospital cuts planned for Navan

Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Navan on 30th October to potest at proposals to replace Navan's A&E with a local injuries unit.

More than 140 people attended an online public meeting of the Save Navan Hospital Campaign last night at which they pledged to ramp up the campaign to save the A&E.

“In the last 10 years we in the Save Navan Hospital Campaign have brought 40,000 people onto the streets in four separate marches,” said Cathaoirleach, Peadar Toibin.

“We will now mobilise the people of Meath again to make a stand to protect our hospital.“

In the run up to the major protest on the 30th there will be two smaller demonstrations in Navan on 16th and 23rd October.

Among those who attended last night's meeting were representatives of four parties. Deputies Johnny Guirke and Darren O'Rourke of Sinn Fein as well as Minister Damien English of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail councillor, Padraig Fitzsimons joined the Aontu leader at the meeting.

It was confirmed in the Dail on Tuesday that there are plans to replace the A&E in Navan with a 24/7 acute medical assessment unit (AMAU) as well as a daytime local injuries unit (LIU).
