Excellent performance by Ratoath's Katie Doherty

ATHLETICS Meath athletes also prominent at Community Games finals

Ratoath athlete Katie Doherty was flying the flag for Ireland Schools at the SIAB International Schools Track & Field Championships in Derby, England at the weekend representing for Ratoath College.

The talented Meath teenager finished third behind English duo Mille King and Faith Akinbileeje from in the Girls under-17 200m in a time of 25.76s.

She also ran the anchor leg in the 4 x 100m and medalled again taking third behind athletes from England and Wales in a time of 48.26s.

This was an excellent performance by the 14-year-old athlete who is a member of Ratoath AC.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Some 400 children who had qualified through club, county, regional and provincial competitions took part in the National Athletics and Cycling on Grass Finals at IT Carlow on Saturday.

Special guests were Olympian Marcus Lawler and European medallists Molly Scott and Sarah Quinn.

Meath athletes were amongst the medals as Ratoath's Jack Kelly won the Boys u-16 200m with Oscar Glynn close behind in fifth place.

Saoirse Carrigan (Ratoath) was third in the u-14 100m, Emmet Doyle, Cáit McElroy, Nicole Doherty, Éabha Hanley and Aisling Clare also performed well.

Oisin Giles (Skryne) won the Boys u-12 100m with another Meath athlete, Theo De Bonis (Ratoath) in second place.

Skryne's Ross Mulvaney was second in the u-10 60m hurdle with a great run.

Seven-year-old Yellow Furze NS pupil Feidhleim Seepersad won a bronze medal in the u-8 60m and Skryne's Aoibhinn Laverty was second in the same event for the girls with a fine display.
