Benny lights up Listowel with Most Stylish Racegoer title

His horse may not have won but 80-year-old Benny O'Keeffe made sure he was a ‘Winner Alright’ when he scooped the title of Most Stylish Racegoer at the Listowel Races last Sunday week.

The dapper pensioner pocketed a €400 cash prize after judge Emily O’Donoghue spotted Benny, who lives on the Enfield Kilcock border, among the 2,000 strong crowd at the Kingdom racecourse with his 10-strong 'The Weeping Ash' syndicate, based out in Hattons of Kilcock.

The syndicate which gets its title from the pub’s former name, includes Gordon Elliott who trains Class Bishop Lady.

Benny O'Keeffe wore a sky blue suit, paired with a merl grey waistcoat, set off with a soft pink shirt cleverly co-ordinated with a pink and grey check tie.

And while his horse may not have lit up Listowel Benny showed his class and was first past the post with Miriam Prendergast from Killarney as the most sylish racegoers at the opening day of the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival.

Benny wore a sky blue suit, paired with a merl grey waistcoat, set off with a soft pink shirt cleverly co-ordinated with a pink and grey check tie. He purchased his very dapper hat in the Ukraine.

"Ah sure it made my day, I didn't think I was going to come with €400 in my pocket as handy as that." he laughed.
