Parkvilla advance in Leinster Junior Cup

Parkvilla found the winning formula in the first round of the Leinster Junior Cup at Claremont Stadium on Saturday against the Latin Dubs.

The visitors to the Navan venue comprised a team made up of players from South America, mostly from Columbia , but with an Argentinian and a Brazilian thrown in for good measure.

Playing under the title of the Latin Dubs, they brought with them a mixture of lovely one-touch football that was displayed from time-to-time and also on view were some tactics that were less pleasing to watch.

However, the Meath side showed lots of quality and resilience and recorded a well-deserved victory.

Ben Gibney was first on the scoresheet when he found the net from an almost impossible angle.

A mix up in the home defence gave the visitors a chance to level and Parkvilla had to find a bit extra.

Kian Ratty found the net from a penalty after the visitors were deemed guilty of some unsavoury play in their own penalty area.

Gibney added a second and Parkvilla's third when he finished well to make it 3-1.

It was all-out attack at that stage and the reliable and talented centre back and captain Chris Kennedy found the net with a rasping drive.

Gibney then fired into roof of the net from an acute angle to complete his hat-trick and with time almost up Tristan O’Neill completed the scoring.

Best for Parkvilla in what was a good team display were Christian Nicolenco, Serghei Istrati and Gary Gibney.

Parkvilla - Max Demandecki; Ethan Rathbone, Christian Nicolenco, Chris Kennedy, Sean Lally-Starrs, Ben Grey, Gary Gibney, Serghei Istrati, Eoghan Heavey, Kian Ratty, Ben Gibney. Subs - Tristan O’Neill for Gibney, Jack Turleyy for Kennedy, Lee Williamson for Ratty, Finn Murray for Heavey.
