Charity cycle from Laytown to the Curragh

FUNDRAISER

The enclosure for the annual races at Laytown will be the starting point for Saturday’s inaugural and innovative Coast to Curragh 155km charity cycle, 7.30am.

All funds raised will be donated to Cancer Trials Ireland in memory of the late Pat Smullen.

Members of Pat Smullen’s family along with Ruby Walsh, Johnny Murtagh, Paul Carberry, Joseph O'Brien, Fran Berry, Charlie Swan, Barry Geraghty, Paul Townend, Patrick Mullins and racing pundits Kevin Blake and Gary O'Brien will support the cycle.

The Coast to Curragh charity cycle is the brainchild of Gavin Lynch, who lost his mother Olive to pancreatic cancer.

Lynch, who is a massive racing fan, was inspired by nine-time flat champion jockey Pat Smullen who raised much needed funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer trials over Longines Irish Champions Weekend in 2019 while fighting his own battle with the same illness.

Cyclists can join the fundraising event at any of the eight designated starting points.

From Laytown the cyclists will go to Bellewstown for 8.30am and then on to Navan racecourse for 10am.

From Navan the group will head for Fairyhouse for 11.30am followed by Moyglare Stud (12.45pm), Naas racecourse (2pm), Punchestown (2.15pm), Gilltown Stud (2.45pm) and on to the Curragh for 3.30pm.
