1,983 on housing list in Navan

There are 1, 983 applicants on the social housing waiting list in the Navan electoral area.

They include 868 people waiting on one bedroom accommodation and 772 waiting on a two bedroom home,.There are 254 waiting on a three bedroom unit and 89 on a four bedroom house.

At yesterday's meeting of Navan Municipal District Council, Cllr Eddie Fennessy asked the Executive to provide an update on the number of social housing applicants in the Municipal District, a breakdown of those on the 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom lists and the average timespan applicant must wait before they receive an allocation.

He was told that on average those being allocated one bedroom houses at the moment have been on the list since 2010 while those in line for four bedroom homes have been on the list since 2012. Those being allocated two bedroom unit have been waiting five years while the wait for three bedroom homes is around three years.

Cllr Fennessy was told there are a number of applicants on the lists who have an application date prior to those periods, but have an unclear Garda vetting and are therefore not being considered for allocation at present.
