Legends line out to recall the games of their lives

Legends of Meath GAA flocked to Lynch's Pub in Trim last week for the launch of an exciting new book from the Meath Chronicle's Fergal Lynch, titled ‘Game Of My Life’.

There was no shortage of All-Ireland winners, Allstars and Players of the Year as Jack Quinn, Trevor Giles, Graham Geraghty, Liam Hayes, David Beggy, Kevin Reilly and Joe Sheridan were amongst the guests at the launch.

‘Game Of My Life’ features interviews with 25 Meath stars who recall one game that defined their career and left an indelible impression on them forever.

For Lynch the opportunity to sit down with legends of Meath GAA to discuss the game that changed their lives was an honour and he was delighted to be asked by Liam Hayes of Hero Books to take on the project.

“Liam approached me just at the start of lockdown in 2020 and with the whole world up in the air I figured I would have plenty of time on my hands to get stuck into it,” said Lynch.

“I certainly didn’t need to be asked twice. Ever since I was brought to Croke Park for my first ever Meath game in 1984 I have been hooked on the GAA.

“For me I have the best job in the world, working with absolute legends of the game and getting to hear their magnificent stories first hand is something I get a thrill out of every time I meet these heroes.

“For ‘Game Of My Life’ I got to hear from lads like Trevor Giles, Graham Geraghty, two of my all-time favourite players, as well as other heroes like Liam Hayes, David Beggy, Martin O'Connell, Colm Coyle and of course Sean Boylan.

“There are 25 interviews in the book and stories that cover a lot of eras, from Peter Darby's glory days with Trim in 1962 to Graham Reilly's views on the 2010 Leinster SFC final win over Louth.

“This book really was a labour of love and if nothing else it chronicles the stories these great men have to tell. Those stories are now recorded forever and I hope everyone who reads it enjoys it,” concluded Lynch.

‘Game Of My Life’ features interviews with Peter Darby, Jack Quinn, Bernard Flynn, Anthony Moyles, Bob O'Malley, Trevor Giles, Graham Geraghty, Colm Coyle, Colm O'Rourke, Darren Fay, David Beggy, Finian Murtagh, Graham Reilly, Jody Devine, Liam Hayes, Kevin Reilly, Mattie Kerrigan, Tommy Dowd, Ollie Murphy, Joe Sheridan, Kevin Foley, Martin O'Connell, Mickey Burke, Stephen Bray and the one and only Sean Boylan, and is available online and in all good bookshops now.
