Summerhill mourns two pillars of community

Deaths of Vincent Nangle and Mairead Lyons

Summerhill is in mourning for two popular members of the community who have passed away in recent days.

Vincent Nangle, who ran his namesake shop at Agher Cross for over 60 years, died on Saturday at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

In his 84th year, his family had run the store since the 1800s and he took it over in 1956, running it with his wife, Ann, until 2018.

He is survived by Ann, Ann, daughter Anna Glover, sons; Peter, Barry, and Stan, grandchildren; extended family, relatives and friends.

Vincent is reposing at William Ryan and Sons Funeral Home, Church St, Kilcock, today (Wednesday, following strict guidelines, the use of face masks and hand sanitizer is essential) from 5pm until prayers at 9pm followed by removal to his residence. House Private on Thursday and on Friday morning.

Funeral Mass will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Dangan, Summerhill on Friday at 12 noon and can be viewed on https://churchmedia.tv/camera/church-of-the-assumption-coole followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Vincent's funeral cortège will leave his home at Agher Cross at 11.30am via Summerhill village en route to Dangan Church. Friends and neighbours are very welcome to line that route in a safe and socially distanced manner as a mark of respect.

The death has taken place also of Mairead Lyons, well known for her political and sporting family associations.

Mother of former Meath footballers Mick and Paraic, she was daughter of former Meath Fine Gael TD, Captain Paddy Giles of Drumlargan, Kilcock, and is a past lady captain of Co Meath Golf Club.

Wife of the late Paddy, she is survived by family, Mary, Michael, Brenda, Paraic and Terry, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, brother Micheál, and extended family.

A funeral Mass will take place in the Church of The Assumption, Coole, on Friday at 3.30pm followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mairead's funeral cortège will travel from her home at 3pm, en route to the church, via the New Road and Coole School. Friends and neighbours are very welcome to line that route in a safe and socially distanced manner as a mark of respect.
