Sensory room at Fairyhouse

The Fairyhouse vaccination centre now has a sensory room for people attending the clinic.

Some young people were finding the queuing process and the vaccination experience stressful and the sensory room is a calm quiet space to support the needs of parents and young service users.

Clinical Lead Aideen Mulholland created the sensory room on her day off as a surprise for the staff team and service users.

It creates a low stimulus environment aimed at reducing the levels of intrusive background noise and an easier environment to be present in

The parent/guardian and young person can be vaccinated in this room and also wait for 15-30 minutes of observation after the vaccine to make sure that they feel well before they leave.

Meanwhile Covid-19 vaccines are now available from pharmacies across Meath for people aged 12 and over.

A full list of participating pharmacies is on the HSE website.

Des O’Flynn Chief Officer, Midlands Louth Meath Community Healthcare Organisation said: “Support from pharmacies is instrumental in ensuring access to vaccines for people in the community who may not be in a position to get to one of our HSE vaccination centres.

“We would encourage people to take up a vaccination at a participating pharmacy, or at a HSE centre, if they have yet to receive a vaccine. Please be assured that all those participating in the vaccine rollout have received dedicated training to ensure the safe and effective administration of the vaccine.”
