Murtagh steps down as Meath selector

Meath manager Andy McEntee is on the look out for a new selector with the news that Finian Murtagh has decided to step away from his role.

Murtagh has been with McEntee as one of his selectors since he took over as manager after Mick O'Dowd stepped down in 2016.

It is expected that McEntee might promote from within his coaching group with goalkeeping coach Mark Brennan tipped to replace his Navan O'Mahonys club mate Murtagh.

McEntee's current selectors include Donal Curtis, Colm Nally and Paul Nestor and there is speculation that another position might become open before the new season resumes in 2022.

Regarded as one of Meath's finest attacking players Murtagh was part of the successful Meath teams of the late 1980s and early 90s before retiring from inter-county football in 1991. He played his last game for Meath in the fourth game of the Meath, Dublin saga that year.
