Letter to the Editor: Govt failing on solar panel promise

(Editor, Meath Chronicle)

Dear sir - Reading the comments on the Climate Action Bill IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) from Eamon Ryan, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, and Pascal Donohoe, Minister for Finance, shows this Government is all about soundbites, not actions.

In the published Programme for Government 2020, under 'Expanding and incentivising micro generation, including roof-top solar energy and photo volactic installations', the Government committed to set a tariff to compensate the installers of PV panels (of which I am one) for surplus electricity generated. No tariff is set in August 2021.

Meanwhile, ESB is getting free surplus electricity generated by over 100,000 homes, in my case over 1,000 units per month with the loss of €200 payback per month. Ordinary people who have invested over €10,000 each towards green energy installations are being failed by this government and the ESB, the State Body with responsibility for electricity generation and distribution. Some €10 million spent by energy activists without the promised payback. This Government is asleep at the wheel. Less talk, more action is needed!

Yours,

John Wilson,
