Navan's 109A and 109X bus stops relocated to Kells Road

Bus Eireann will relocate two of its Navan bus stops to the Kells Road in a bid to relieve traffic congestion, noise and pollution on Abbey Road.

The company has agreed to relocate the stops for the 109A and 109X services to the Kells Road

The locating of bus services on Abbey Road caused serious difficulties for local residents who endured problems with traffic safety and congestion, noise pollution and anti social behaviour.

To address problems with anti social behaviour, Meath County Council agreed to install signage making people aware that Abbey Road is covered by CCTV and Navan Gardaí committed to increase patrols in the area.

Cllr Eddie Fennessy who organised a meeting of Meath County Council, Bus Éireann and a delegation of residents from Abbey Road explained bus services were temporarily relocated to Abbey Road two years ago in preparation for a pemanent move to Kennedy Road next year.

Speaking after the meeting in the Town Hall, Cllr Fennessy said: "I'd like to thank Meath County Council, Bus Éireann and the Community Section of Navan Gardaí for listening to the concerns of local residents. A number of initiatives were agreed at the meeting and it is hoped these will address problems faced by local residents.

"To address problems with traffic safety and congestion, Bus Éireann committed to a reduction of services on Abbey Road by relocating the 109A and 109X services to the Kells road. In terms of noise pollution, they also agreed to install signs directing bus drivers to switch engines off whilst parked in the area.

"Most of all I'd like to thank local residents, they ran a great community campaign to highlight their plight. We may not have achieved everything we wanted, what we have is a step in the right direction and I really hope it will reduce difficulties faced by the local community."
