Civic reception planned for Meath women's football team

Meath County Council will host a Civic Reception for the Meath women's football team.

The Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Councillor Sean Drew has congratulated the team on their spectacular comeback and victory in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Speaking after the match on Sunday, Councillor Drew said “that the team had shown remarkable belief and resilience in coming from behind and overcoming a very good Cork team. All members of the panel and the team’s management should be very proud of their achievements to date and I hope that everybody in the county will now get behind the team in the lead-up to the final on September 5th.”

The Cathaoirleach confirmed that the Council had already agreed to host a formal Civic Reception to honour the players and management for their success in winning the 2020 Intermediate All-Ireland title and that arrangements for this will be finalised in line with the latest public health guidelines and the Council’s own protocols.

“The Civic Reception was proposed by my colleague Councillor Stephen McKee and agreed by all members, but if the team pull-off a victory for the Senior Title then we will have to come up with something special to honour such a fantastic achievement.”

In the run-up to the final, the Council will be erecting messages of good luck to the team across the county and is encouraging people and businesses to wear and display the county colours with pride, “we want the team to know that they have the support and best wishes of everybody in the county and that this will help to drive them onto success in the final” said Councillor Drew.
