Minogue's men claim hurling crown

Goal-hungry Dunderry grasp victory

In front from very early in the game Dunderry pushed on to claim a deserved and comprehensive 5-8 to 0-11 victory over Boardsmill in the 2020 Junior 2 HC final at Pairc Tailteann this evening.

Victory was already looking like it would be claimed by the team managed by Killian Minogue at half-time.

By that stage Dunderry led 3-6 to 0-5 and there was no stopping Minogue's well-prepared side as they added two more goals to their account to bag the silverware.

David Gilkeson showed the way for the winners with a personal tally of 2-4 while Ciaran Brady capped an enterprising display with two goals while Adam Kelly also found the net. Bob Doherty and David McCormack were others to point for the winners.

Dunderry were particularly effective in the opening half playing some fast-paced, sharp hurling to repeatedly put pressure on the Boardsmill defence.

One of Gilkeson's goals came from a penalty shot after Doherty was hauled down in the square.

Boardsmill never stopped battling but they were unable to find the cutting edge they needed. Keith Hamilton was their topscorer with four points but goals was what they required to match Dunderry's ability to find the net.

"We said there were four games in tonight's final and they were the four 15 minutes and if we could win each one of those and work hard we would get over the line. It's a testament to the players," said manager Minogue.
