Impressive display as Gaeil Colmcille win Feis Cup final

Gaeil Colmcille produced a fluent performance at Pairc Tailteann tonight as they claimed the 2020 Feis Cup at the expense of Wolfe Tones with a 2-16 to 2-8 victory.

The winning margin doesn't really reflect the dominance of Gaeil Colmcille with the Tones claiming a brace of goals in added time.

Gaeil Colmcille made the best possible start with a third minute Fionn Reilly goal and it was only the woodwork that denied a second when Fionn Ferguson unleashed a rocket that rebounded to safety to the relief of the Wolfe Tones defence.

Those two incidents apart, Gaeil Colmcille delivered a fluent first half performance as they established a 1-7 to 0-6 interval advantage.

Brian Hanlon sent over three points, one free, one mark and one from a '45' while Ryan Farnham claimed a brace from play with Evan Sheridan and Fionn Reilly also on target.

Wolfe Tones stayed in contention on crumbs of possession with a brace of points apiece from Niall O'Reilly and Oisin Martin and one each from Alan Lynam and Thomas O'Reilly.

Gaeil Colmcille claimed a second goal soon after the resumption when Fionn Reilly converted a penalty after Hanlon was impeded.

Further points from Sheridan and Seamus Mattimoe (free) extended the lead to 2-9 to 0-7 by the second water break as the Tones managed a solitary Cian Ward pointed free.

The final quarter was lively, but Gaeil Colmcille did enough to get to the finishing post with an eight-point advantage.

Hanlon sent over four points, Fionn Reilly added a brace and Seamus Mattimoe also hit the target.

Wolfe Tones managed a solitary Cian Ward pointed free, but finished with a flourish when substitute Tom Gavigan fired two goals past Justin Carry-Lynch, but on this occasion it was only a consolation.
