Tailteann Cup round up: Boardsmill find their way through the 'Wood

TAILTEANN CUP

Boardsmill 2-19

Kilmainhamwood 2-10

After 10 minutes or so of this Tailteann Cup encounter last evening Kilmainhamwood led 0-3 to 0-2 but very soon after it was Boardsmill who grabbed the initiative and it was they who powered on to victory.

At the interval Boardsmill showed they meant business as they led 1-9 to 1-5 with Kilmainhamwood's goal scored when Niall Conlon's high ball ended up in the Boardsmill net. Boardsmill continued to steadily add to their account in the second-half while the 'Wood struggled to build on their tally.

They north Meath side did get a second goal when Callum Crosbie netted after a beautiful pass from Conlon to leave two points between the sides but that was as good as it got for the 'Wood. Crosbie also hit three points over the hour as did Stephen Kiernan, all from frees. Paidi Owens and Luke Owens were others who contributed scores to Kilmainhamwood's account but victory belonged to the well-organised Boardsmill side.

Cortown 3-10

Drumconrath 0-15

Even though they were short a plethora of regulars Cortown still proved too strong for Dumconrath in this Tailteann Cup encounter at picturesque Cortown last evening.

Tommy Smith, set Cortown on their way when he curled the ball between the posts for a point in what was a superb left-footed effort. Smith was to go on to shoot 1-2 but that healthy tally was surpassed by the enterprising Davy Rispin who registered 1-4, three of those points from play.

Hugh Staunton also notched up 1-2 for Cortown who only led by the minimum (0-6 to 0-5) at the break before finding an extra gear or two in the second-half. Luke Carberry and Oisin Smith were others to register points for the Cortown side who were left reeling after their defeat to St Mary's the previous week and needed this win.

Tomas Conlon notched up seven points for the Drums while Daniel Byrne hit five but they still ended up on the losing side. Matthew Durnin and Pado Farrelly also pointed for Drumconrath but there was no denying Cortown.

St Brigid's 6-11

Kilbride 2-19

There was no stopping St Brigid's on their own patch at Ballinacree as they chalked up a huge score against Kilbride in the Tailteann Cup yesterday evening.

The contest was relatively close at the interval when goal-hungry St Brigid's led 4-3 to 0-14. However, the north Meath side really upped the pace in the second-half and Kilbride couldn't stay in their slipstream although they weren't too far behind either.

Joe Blake scored a goal for the Saints very early in this gripping contest and he went on to bank a very impressive 3-4. When it came to the score-taking stakes Kevin Gilsenan also display a clinical streak in front of the posts with 2-2. Michael Flood was another to break through for a goal in what turned into a proper score-fest.

Cormac Brown, Jack Blake and David Gibney were others who contributed to the winners' tally.

Next up for the in-form St Brigid's is an away clash with Castletown.
