Pedestrian crossing needs to move to safer location - Deane

A CALL for the relocation of the pedestrian crossing in Old Johnstown Village to a safer position, such as adjacent to the village veterinary practice, has been made by Cllr Francis Deane.

He was told Meath County Council have plans to resurface roads in the old village following the very successful installation of traffic calming ramps, and a pedestrian crossing could be placed in a better position while the proposed resurfacing works are being completed.

“Meath County Council will consider the relocation of the pedestrian crossing following a full safety audit of the junction in question.

“In the meantime, drainage works are required to rectify a damaged culvert in the area which will be completed prior to any further resurfacing works commencing,” he was told.

The new three year programme of works for the Navan Municipal District is due to be compiled in the coming months for the period 2022-2024.

Meanwhile, Meath Co Council is to undertake a traffic survey within Woodlands Estate in Navan when resources are available, to establish the necessity for further speed control measures. Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons proposed at last week’s Municipal District meeting that they look at the possibility of placing further speed control measures in Woodlands estate.
