Skryne bounce back in style

FEIS CUP

After their humbling by Simonstown last time out Skryne got back to winning ways in the Feis Cup with a decent 0-17 to 2-8 victory over visitors Na Fianna.

Daniel Queeney opened the scoring for Na Fianna, but Skryne settled with Conor O'Brien's score followed by two points from Paddy Fox which sandwiched efforts from Jamie Queeney and Ciaran McDonnell for Na Fianna.

Paddy Carpenter also got off the mark with a point, but then Skryne were hit with a sucker punch when Jamie Queeney gathered brilliantly on the edge of the square and swivelled brilliantly before firing to the net. Luke Kelly added another point to put a goal between the sides at the water break.

O'Brien and Padraig Finnerty (free) closed the deficit to the minimum and with Mark Battersby in fine form Skryne were soon ahead. However that lead could have been greater, but Padriag Finnerty was denied a goal from the penalty spot by the Na Fianna goalkeeper and the rebound was also brilliantly turned away.

However Padraig Finnerty did add his second point to ensure a 0-9 to 1-5 interval lead for his side.

When play resumed Padraig Finnerty stretched that lead with two frees and with Conor O'Brien and Paddy Carpenter also on target Skryne looked comfortable.

Jack McNally eventually got Na Fianna off the mark again before Carpenter scored from a mark. As Skryne missed a goal chance when O'Brien was inches wide, Na Fianna clawed their way back into the game when Owen McDonnell punched to the net to close the deficit to one at the second water break.

McNally and Damien Downey responded to a Niall Finnerty point to restore parity with eight minutes remaining, but they proved to be Na Fianna's last scores as Battersby (two) and Niall Finnerty both pointed from play to give Skryne the victory.
