Narrow camogie win for Dunboyne

Dunboyne senior camogie team got their Division 2 league off to a winning start on Tuesday night with a 2-7 to 2-8 win over Killyon writes Siobhán Synan.

Conditions on Tuesday night were ideal for the long-awaited resumption of the camogie season.

Killoyn started brightly with two unanswered points, but after the water break, Dunboyne began to find their form.

Some solid defending from the Dunboyne backs, in particular Niamh Padden and Claire Barker , Niamh O Doherty and Anna O'Brien the teams went in level at half-time.

Killyon were served well throughout the match by wing back Ciara Coleman who scored a goal and several points from the wing-back position.

A well-worked passage of play involving Amy O’ Hara, and Laura Reilly led to a well-deserved goal by corner forward Kate O Carroll that put Dunboyne in the lead.

Killyon continued to work hard, being led from the backs with some impressive defending by Lisa Foley.

The Coyne sisters dominated midfield for Dunboyne, consistently feeding ball to the forwards that lead to further goals from sisters Aisling and Amy Garvey.

Killyon responded with a goal of their own and were unlucky not to get a third.

Killyon wing back Foley got possession of the ball but hit the black spot sending the ball over the bar meaning she had to settle for a point instead.

Both teams dug deep and fought hard until the final but it was the home team that took the spoils in the end.
