Dunshaughlin edged out in Summerhill

Dunshaughlin travelled to Summerhill for the secnd round of the Feis Cup and although there was an improvement in the performance from the week before, they lost by 0-9 to 1-11and went home empty handed writes ULTAN BLAKE

David Jennings was handed his first competitive start in goals for Dunshaughlin and put in a fine performance.

David Gough was in charge of the game and allowed it to flow as much as was possible, very few soft frees were awarded to either team making it an enjoyable game to view.

Dunshaughlin were trailing for most of the game and any time they got within a point or two of Summerhill, the hosts managed to pull away each time and increase the margin again.

The score at the first water break was 1-2 to 0-3 to Summerhill, the Dunshaughlin scorers Tadhg Ó Dúshláine, Ronan Geraghty (Mark) & Wesley Goodwin (f). Summerhill lost Barry Dardis through a serious knee injury when landing badly, we wish him well in his recovery.

In the second quarter Summerhill out-scored Dunshaughlin 5 points to 1 taking a 6 point lead going in at half time, 1-7 to 0-4.

The only point for Dunshaughlin scored by Tadhg Ó Dúshláine.

The third quarter was Dunshauglin’s best, keeping Summerhill scoreless and scoring three points themselves halving the deficit at the second water break to three points.

Dunshaughlin had a great chance to level the game but were denied by a great save in the Summerhill goals by Tony McDonnell from the point blank shot by Harry Dunne.

Dunshaughlin managed to pull it back to a two point game early in the fourth quarter with a point from Niall Murphy.

Summerhill survived Dunshaughlin’s purple patch and pulled away again scoring four points in the last quarter, Dunshaughlin’s final score was a free from the boot of Wesley Goodwin.

Next Wednesday in the third round Dunboyne host Dunshaughlin.
