Gaeil Colmcille edge past McEntee inspired Curraha

FEIS CUP

Despite missing an early penalty Gaeil Colmcille were once again in dominant form as they made it two wins from two Feis Cup outing with a 1-15 to 1-8 victory over hosts Curraha.

The return of James McEntee was a bright point for Curraha and his return of five points kept his side in a game.

After Brian Hanlon hit the crossbar with his early penalty he did manage to open the scoring with a fifth minute point, but Curraha responded impressively and even though they lost Niall McLarnon to a black card for the penalty incident they took the lead with a goal from Ben Heagney.

Hanlon converted two frees to restore parity, but McEntee opened his account to edge Curraha ahead again. However Hanlon responded with two frees to give his side a 0-5 to 1-1 lead at the first water break.

Seamus Mattimoe and Hanlon extended that lead, but again McEntee kept Curraha in touch until Hanlon volleyed a loose ball to the net and then kicked his seventh point of the half to ensure a 1-8 to 1-3 interval lead for the Kells men.

Curraha came out all guns blazing after the break with McEntee (two) and Conor Moriarty helping reduce the gap to three points by the second water break.

Justin Carry-Lynch made a fine save to deny Curraha second goal before Moriarty kept the scoreboard ticking over for the hosts. However it was Gaeil Colmcille who finished strong with Oisin Reilly, Fionn Ferguson and two points from Mattimoe adding gloss to their winning margin.
