Cromwell's Royal reign in Queen Mary

There was a right Royal performance in the opener today at Royal Ascot when the aptly-named Quick Suzy scooted home in the five-furlong Queen Mary Stakes for trainer Gavin Cromwell.

Gary Carroll was on board the speed machine and the reward for the connections is some £47,376 for the two-year-old filly.

Whether it's the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, the Welsh National at Chepstow, Punchestown, Fairyhouse or the prestigious Royal Ascot, Cromwell is proving adept at churning out the winners in both codes.

It was a first Royal Ascot success for trainer and jockey.

The filly won at the Curragh for the original owner, but was subsequently purchased by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners LLC ahead of Royal Ascot

"The plan was she was to remain with me for Royal Ascot and then she was going to go to America. You wouldn’t know, but we might get to twist their arm and hold on to her and go to the Breeders’ Cup," stated Cromwell.

The time today was an impressive 60.0.01 seconds, less than a second slower than the older horses in yesterday's King's Stand Stakes - a Group 1.
