Gritty display by Meath ends in disappointment

So near and yet so far. It was that kind of story for Meath as they crumbled to defeat against Antrim in the National Camogie League Div 2 at Inniskeen on Saturday.

Victory looked to be theirs as this gripping, relentess contest slipped into injury time. On the 60th minute mark substitute Clarie Coffey swept the ball over the bar to put the Royals 1-8 to 0-10 for the first time.

It looked like another of Meath's barnstorming finishes was going to secure victory just as it did against Kilkenny the previous week.

Instead this time Antrim hit back with two late, injury time scores from Roisin McCormick and Caitrin Dobbin to secure a dramatic victory.

It was a harrowing loss for Meath who had a lacklustre opening half and trailed 1-1 to 0-7 at the break with Jane Dolan getting their goal from a penalty shot.

In the second-half Meath were much improved with Dolan (three), Grace Coleman, Amy Gaffney, Sinead Hackett and Coffey bagging points but Antrim hit back to secure a dramatic win.
