Rispin points Cortown to victory

TAILTEANN CUP

There was a modicum of revenge for Cortown in the Tailteann Cup last night as they got the better of their hosts Slane by 0-17 to 1-8.

Slane had defeated Cortown in last year's JFC, but with former Kildare great Davy Dalton in charge the visitors looked sharp against a slightly depleted Slane side.

Davy Rispin was in fine form for the winners finishing with eight points, half from play, but it was by no means a one-man show as Cortown impressed and were commanding throughout.

Rispin used the breeze to good effect to open the scoring and by the first water break Tommy Smith and Rispin added to the tally to ensure a 0-6 to 0-2 lead.

Slane upped the tempo when play resumed, but two more points from Rispin and one from a Hugh Staunton free ensured a 0-9 to 0-4 interval lead for dalton's side.

The scores continued to flow after the resumption with Cormac Lindsay, Smith, Staunton, Rispin and Odhran Henry pushing Cortown into an unassailable lead and despite Slane's late flourish which saw them hit 1-3 they were comprehensively beaten.
