Joanne Rice crossing the line at Down Royal

Second on debut 100km run for Navan woman

Navan Athletic Club women Nichola Duffy and Joanne Rice were in action yesterday at Down Royal racecourse in the Northern Ireland and Ulster 100km and 50km Championships.

Joanne Rice completed her debut 100km and took a marvellous second place in a time of 10 hours, 10 minutes and 33 seconds.

That was a superb effort on her debut run and she was only 10 minutes behind the winner Mary Keenan.

While Joanne was the second woman home she also made it into the top 10 finishing 10th overall.

Nichola Duffy made it to the 45km stage in four hours but at that point opted to pull out of the race

The overall winner was Lee Boyle from Mallusk Harriers in a time of seven hours, 46 minutes and 37 seconds.

SUNDAY

Another Navan athlete, Barry Watters, competed in the Northern Ireland 10km Athletics Championships at Down Royal today and securing a great run and fantastic time of 37 miniutes and 35 seconds.
