Verena's very special bake for children's hospitals

The Great Irish Bake for Temple Street and Crumlin took place over the weekend with money raised going to the Children's Health Foundation. Navan woman Verena Stapleton baked 13 different kinds of cakes, muffins and other goodies for the event raising in excess of €600.

Avid baker Verena rustled up the treats at her Graigs Lane, Dunmoe home, with some sales to the golf ladies in St Margarets and her special local community.

Just to make you feel hungry, Verena baked carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, apple puff pastries, strawberry joghurt cake, millionaire flapjacks, blueberry muffins with blueberry coulis buttercream, blueberry chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, Nutella brownies, classic brownies, banana bread brownies with brown butter frosting flowers, coconut cream tartlets, magic custard cake and today an apple and an apple cake with almond toffee topping.

"I love baking and wanted to put it to good use, give something back to our community in terms of baked goodies, and support a fantastic cause. I personally know kids that needed to avail of Temple Street and Crumlin and as a mammy of two, you just never know and if we need the services ourselves."
