Trip to Wexford is next on the radar
LADIES FOOTBALL
The perfect, and some would say, only antidote to a defeat is to get up, dust yourself off and go out and win next time out. By doing so you silence the doubters, the sceptics and the cynics.
That's precisely what Meath will be seeking to do when they take on Wexford in the next round of the Ladies NFL Div 2A at Wexford Park on Sunday.
Win and do so with some style and panache.
The defeat to Kerry was, no doubt, very disappointing for the Meath players.
After all they had put in a big shift, relentlessly running on Pairc Tailteann's splendid looking surface but ultimately all their efforts proved futile.
On Sunday next they have a chance to put all that right by getting back to winning ways and certainly manager Eamonn Murray believes they can do just that.
Not that he is in the least disrespecting Wexford, far from it, or dismissing their chances.
He just feels his team has the character to take a setback like they did against Kerry on the chin and hit back.
"We have a brilliant bunch of players who have real character," he said after Sunday's defeat to Kerry.
"They won't have to be motivated for the Wexford game, they know what they did wrong.
"They will watch the game back, see where they can improve and work on that.
"They are a very self-motivated group, a very easy bunch to manage."
Murray admitted that he doesn't know a great deal about the make up of the current Wexford team, but he's wary.
They narrowly lost to Clare on Sunday (1-8 to 0-12) and the Meath manager is expecting nothing but a hard, relentless battle in the Model County.
Aisling Murphy, Ciara Banville, Aisling Halligan and Amy Wilson are just some of the talented footballers in their ranks - and Meath can certainly be assured of a difficult assignment in the sunny south east.
There were times against Kerry when Meath produced some impressive, fast-paced football. Enough to suggest they can indeed get the win on Sunday to get them back on track.
