Ballinrobe feature sustains Gibney's winning form

Trainer Tom Gibney added yet another winner to his tally to make it five winners from his last 10 runners when landing the €40,000 Grade B McHale Mayo National at Ballinrobe yesterday.

Unusually, for a Tuesday, there was jumping action at two venues with Tipperary earlier in the day and Ballinrobe in the evening.

Agent Boru won the big race to keep Gibney's good run of form intact, but it was a nailbiting experience for the trainer who had to recruit a substitute jockey after Ricky Doyle was sidelined (fall) and Philip Enright deputised.

Agent Boru challenged approaching the last and forged ahead inside the last furlong.

“I got a phone call to say Ricky Doyle got a fall earlier on the cardand was sore and that he wouldn't be riding,” said trainer Gibney in a post-race chat with irishracing.com.

“It’s just brilliant though. When you feel like it’s not going to go your way and then suddenly it does," he added.

Gibney also had a winner at Ballinrobe on Monday
