Trainer Matthew Smith on the mark at Clonmel

Meath trainer Matthew Smith, a brother of Kevin Smith who had a winner at Dundalk yesterday, took back the family bragging rights at Clonmel this evening with a winner in an 80-95 handicap hurdle.

Punters Poet got the job done in the race that was 31 yards short of a two-and-a-half-miler.

Dunshaughlin jockey Keith Donoghue coaxed a victory out of the six-year-old that had 11-10 on his back.

Owned by the Poetic Ten Syndicate who hail from the Tullamore area, Punters Poet hadn't troubled the judge too often in 18 previous outings on the flat and over hurdlers.

Winning this evening made amends after a couple of placed efforts at Dundalk for jockey Robbie Colgan in November.

SEAN FLANAGAN

Meath-based Sean Flanagan was also on the mark with 13/2 chance Feel Des Mottes which took the Team Powerstown Handicap Hurdle for trainer Liz Doyle.

"He is quite a difficult ride, is very keen and if he can get something to go a gallop and try settle in behind is the key,” commented Sean Flanagan to irishracing.com.
