McGrath gets ready for season finale

Next Sunday Jamie McGrath will draw the curtain down on his first full season playing for St Mirren.

The Saints take on Dundee Utd at home, 12.0, and McGrath warmed up for that game by scoring in last night's 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock in a topsy-turvy league clash that reflected St Mirren's fortunes this season.

The goal was McGrath's 17th of the season - the high number of strikes from the midfielder an indication of just how well he has played with his general overall performances receiving widespread praise.

Jake Doyle-Hayes also started in last night's game while Dylan Connolly was named as one of the substitutes.

St Mirren just missed out on a top-six place this season and they were free from any threat of relegation long before the end of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

In the Scottish League Cup last December St Mirren recorded a brilliant 3-2 victory over Rangers with McGrath getting one of the goals for his team however they were unable to push on and win the trophy, losing 0-1 to Livingston in the last four.

Jim Goodwin's side also recently lost out 1-2 to St Johnstone in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

Last night's fixture against Kilmarnock was St Mirren's first game back in action since that disappointing defeat to St Johnstone - and they showed plenty of resilience to get the draw.

At one stage Kilmarnock led 2-0 but McGrath found the net after 63 minutes with a smart finish to give St Mirren hope. St Mirren made it 2-2 with a spectacular strike by Cammy MacPherson before Kilmarnock went 3-2 up. In the closing stages St Mirren conjured up an equaliser through Collin Quaner.

Now McGrath has a chance to add further to his goal-tally this season in Sunday's home clash against Dundee Utd.
