Trainer Pat Martin's faith rewarded at Gowran

The Pat Martin-trained Crystal Pool eventually paid for some of her oats when winning a 45-65 handicap at Gowran Park today

It was the first win after 11 previous attempts and it was the only Meath-trained winner on the day as Wayne Lordan coaxed a short-head victory out of what was a willing partner.

The filly's form was dismal, but trainer Pat Martin indicated after the race that they always found some reason for those indifferent displays and his faith was rewarded today.

Crystal Pool was sent off at 28/1 and got up on the inside rail to get the better of the Willie McCreery-trained 13/8 favourite Coill Na Sionainne by that short-head as the two runners crossed the line together in a head-bobber

“I'm delighted as she was bred by my late father-in-law (Tom Brennan) and it means a lot," commented the trainer in a post-race chat with irishracing.com.
