Deputy head appointed to new Dunshaughlin Post Primary

LMETB has appointed Ms Shabana Hussain Dowd as Deputy Principal at Coláiste Ríoga, Dunshaughlin.

Coláiste Ríoga will open its doors to 1st Year students in August. Mr Decan Clarke was appointed principal, earlier this year.

Ms Hussain Dowd holds an Undergraduate Degree in English, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Inclusive Education, Learning Support and Special Educational Needs.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to the role, she has worked in Eureka Secondary School, Kells since 2012 as a teacher of English and Special Educational Needs.

She has significant experience and expertise in the areas of school leadership and management, student support teams, teacher CPD, curriculum planning, school self - evaluation, transfer and transition from primary to post primary school, student retention and attainment, monitoring and tracking student performance and fostering parental engagement and is looking forward to bringing this experience and expertise to her new leadership and management role at Coláiste Ríoga.

Ms Hussain Dowd has particular interest in drama, musical productions and creative writing clubs and she looks forward to working with the learning community of Coláiste Ríoga to develop the range of co-curricular and extra - curricular activities at the new school.

Meanwhile, The Department of Education announced today (Tuesday) that a design team has been appointed for the development of Franciscan College, Gormanston.

Minister Thomas Byrne welcomed the announcement saying “I am delighted to hear that a design team has been appointed to Franciscan College Gormanston and that the project will go to tender today”.

The National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) is supporting the Department of Education and Skills by delivering an element of the Department's school building programme on its behalf. The Devolved Schools Building Programme 2 comprises of 20 individual school building projects ranging from new builds to extensions/refurbishment projects for works at both primary and post primary level.

The NDFA previously delivered a programme of 16 schools on the Department’s behalf, the last of which has recently been completed. A framework of project management and design team consultants has been appointed for the programme and the process to appoint teams to specific project bundles is now underway.

“WS Atkins Ireland Ltd. has been appointed to deliver Project Boyne, which includes the new build at Franciscan College Gormanston. Atkins will now begin the Stage 1 process of design for the project and this is wonderful, much anticipated news for all in the College community” Minister Byrne concluded.
