Robbie Colgan lands last at Leopardstown

Jockey Robbie Colgan registered his first winner of the 2021 flat season at Leopardstown today.

Colgan was on board the Tony Martin-trained Akhlaaq in the concluding 45-70 handicap as the now seven-year-old finally got past the post first.

Akhlaaq, previously trained at Lambourn by Owen Burrows, gave almost a stone to the runner-up Pinpointed and prevailed by a three-parts-of-a-length on a seventh outing for the trainer.

For Colgan, the win gets him off the mark for 2021 as he attempts to improve on last year's tally of 11.

He was in the winners' enclosure over jumps at Fairyhouse in February after landing a hurdle race on the Sheila Lavery-trained Laid Back Luke.
