Meath woman Natalya Coyle finished seventh today in the UIPM 2021 Pentathlon Wold Cup Hungary in Budapest with the win going to English woman Kate French.

"First competition in 14 months and I’m delighted to have finished seventh, great start and excited for more to come," she commented on social media.

Another Irish competitor, Sive Brassil, also made the final and managed a top 20 finish claiming 18th position on 1307 points.

Joanna Muir (GBR) also stood out from the field as she claimed silver – and Francesca Summers (GBR) completed a remarkable team effort by finishing sixth.

Gintare Venckauskaite of Lithuania completed a thrilling comeback to earn the bronze medal in the first elite Modern Pentathlon final since UIPM 2020 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo.

Behind the top three, Marie Oteiza of France finished strongly in fourth and Iryna Prasiantsova of Belarus finished one place further back after performing consistently all day.

In a sprint to the line, Natalya Coyle of Ireland came home seventh, one place ahead of Uliana Batashova of Russia.

Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe found the going tough in his first competition for 13 months and fell short of qualifying for the men’s final.

The Kilkenny pentathlete, 29, finished 16th in his qualification group with 1,029 points to rank 50th of 92 athletes overall, and was eliminated with only 36 athletes reaching the final.
