Devin Toner

Contract extension could be on offer for Moynalvey man

The waiting game. The announcement of the Leinster team for any game in the European Champions Cup and the PRO 14 is always of interest for those who follow the Boys in Blue.

This week the starting 15 chosen by head coach Leo Cullen will certainly hold a great deal of interest for those rugby followers in Meath and beyond who closely follow the fortunes of Devin Toner.

If the Moynalvey man lines out for Leinster against Munster in the PRO 14 final at the RDS on Saturday, 5pm he will create a piece of history by becoming the most capped player in the history of the province.

Toner will earn his 262nd cap if he does get the call and there is very liklihood he will feature at some stage in the game, if not from the start than as a substitute.

Last Friday night Toner played the full 80 minutes for Leinster in their defeat by the Ospreys at the RDS and there will surely be a very strong desire among the Leinster players to get back on track this Saturday.

Toner has also indicated yesterday that he may stay on with Leinster for at least another season. The 34-year-old's contract expires at the end of this campaign but he said he was "in negotiations" as regards an extension.

"So it'll probably come out in the next month or two, what the plans are but the body's feeling great. Touch wood I've had no really bad injuries," he told OTB Sports 'Up Close and Personal' programme.
