Degrees... Eve Daly and mum Annemarie Cooney.

Co-graduations, Eve and Annemarie!

A MOTHER and daughter duo from Carnaross who recently celebrated their graduations together say the momentous occasion was a proud milestone for the family.

Eve Daly received a BSc (Hons) Degree in Business and Management awarded by the Technological University Dublin while her mum Annemarie Cooney obtained a Masters Degree in Conflict Management from the National University of Ireland Galway.

Annemarie admits the final year of studies was particularly challenging due to the Covid-19 pandemic which meant that all lectures, exams and research had to be conducted online, however the pair were a great support to each other during this time sharing study tips and getting to grips with Zoom and Webex.

The mum of four who is an Assistant Principal Officer with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, working in Rural Development commented that:

“It was just a coincidence that we ended up graduating together. Eve was two years into her course when I started mine. The double graduation was a really fabulous culmination of all of the work that we both put in over the past few years.

“We both graduated online and we didn’t have the big ceremonies that people normally have. It was disappointing that we couldn’t go to our respective colleges and graduate with our peers and our colleagues and friends but the fact that we could do it at home together was a consolation.

Annemarie who is married to Seán and has three other daughters Melissa, Shauna and Grace says that even though adjusting to the new situation was challenging it made the achievement all the more poignant.

“It just showed that you can move around obstacles and find ways to do things differently.”

Eve is currently working for SAP, one of the world’s leading producers of software for management of business processes. She is based in SAP’s Centre of Expertise with responsibility for Internal Communications and Business Operations.

Eve and Annemarie both attended Eureka Secondary School in Kells and are the granddaughter and daughter of John and Kay Cooney, Knockglass, Kells.
