€300 raised by Park Rí Kells Staff for Down Syndrome Ireland

A kells business came up with a novel way to mark World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) by inviting their staff to wear odd, mismatched colourful socks to work yesterday March 21st.

The management of Park Rí Destination & Food Court in Kells came up with the idea, a trend that is associated with creating awareness of Down Syndrome to fundraise and raise awareness on this day of celebration that takes place annually.

The reason the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen for the annual WDSD is because those with Down syndrome are born with an extra copy, a 3rd chromosome 21.

For each staff member who did, the company said they would pledge €10.

Both Lucy & Wesley chose a Supermacs as their treat and were delighted to see that all the odd socks were properly worn by the Park Rí Kells staff.

The Park Ri Staff embraced the challenge and €300 was raised for Down Syndrome Ireland.

Two special guests, Wesley Smith and Lucy Duffy were invited by Damien Duffy, Operations Director, to come to Park Rí Kells for a special treat on World Down Syndrome Day and to oversee the proper wearing of the odd socks by the staff.
