Heritage funding for Railway Street, Navan

Railway Street in Navan is set for a €163,000 revamp following the announcement today of the allocation of funding from a heritage led regeneration fund.

Minister Damien English welcomed the news that Railway Street can now begin the much-needed face lift in conjunction with Meath County Council.

“A total of €1.5million was allocated nationally for this competitive fund by my colleague Minister Malcolm Noonan for towns around the country. Navan will benefit now after securing over 10 per cent of that fund following a successful application by Meath County Council. "This is great news for the locality."

The Historic Towns initiative 2021 is a joint undertaking by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Heritage Council.

Minister English continued: “The funding for Railway Street will help towards making the street, which is on the main road from Trim to Navan, more attractive. It will bring economic benefits to the street whilst conserving the features, especially the unique shop fronts, which make this street unique. Fusing the ‘old’ with the ‘new’ is a key factor in the regeneration of our towns and will result in a much-improved look while also preserving our past.”
