13 not unlucky for Togoville at Dundalk

It's not too often that a 60-rated flat handicapper would merit too much attention after winning a moderate seven-furlong event at Dundalk Stadium this evening.

And maybe it doesn't merit any great publicity, but nevertheless the Monaghan-trained Togoville surely deserves a mention after winning for the 13th time at Dundalk when landing the final race on the card this evening.

Last week the 11-year-old grey, which won for the first time at Dundalk seven years ago for Meath trainer Pat Martin, set a record at the Louth track when winning there for the 12th time.

Maybe it was appropriate also that trainer Pat Martin had a winner on the card tonight as well.

However, seven days after setting the record Togoville broke that record and set a new one tonight - 13 wins at Dundalk in a 73-race career so far.

Togoville only got to run tonight when the current trainer decided not to retire the gallant grey after last week's win.

Those retirement plans are now on hold and more racing at Dundalk is on the cards in the short-term.

No doubt, when Togoville does call it a day there will be a Togoville Trophy race at Dundalk, but not for a while yet.
