More road closures in store for Navan

New road closures will be implemented in Navan from next Monday as work on the Navan 2030 scheme continues.

Ludlow Street, Bridge Street, Academy Street, Church Hill, Circular Road and the Fair Green will be closed from 7pm each evening to 7am the following morning from Monday next until Saturday 6th March.

Meath County Council says the closures are necessary to facilitate road upgrade works as part of the Navan Town 2030 Scheme.

Temporary traffic management measure and diversion routes will be in place and local access will be provided.

The works on Bridge Street will involve road pavement excavation and the construction of a new pavement, as well as the installation of new road surfacing.

It is expected that the excavation element of the works will commence early in the evening in an effort to mitigate the level of disruption to residents.

On Circular Road and its junction with Bridge Street and Academy Road, the works will consist mainly of road surface reconstruction, which will necessitate the contractor to plane out the old surface and lay a new road pavement surface. The works will also include the raising of ironmongery - steel manhole lids and watermain valve chamber lids and the resetting these at the new road surface level.

The work is part of the €12m scheme which will bring huge changes to the streets and lanes of Navan, over the next three to four years, including bus bays on either side of a widened Kennedy Road, as well as a park and ride facility outside the town.

Meanwhile, Meath County Council is currently working to develop the next Road Safety Plan for County Meath for the period 2021 to 2030.

Submissions or comments relating to the new Road Safety Plan may be made in writing to the Road Safety Officer, Transportation Department, Buvinda House, Navan, Co Meath; submitted through the Council’s consultation platform on the website at www.consult.meath.ie or emailed to transport@meathcoco.ie to arrive not later than 5pm on Wednesday 17th Feb 2021.
