Plan to rezone land at Loyd for amenity purposes dropped

A notice of motion to have 50 acres of land in the vicinity of the Tower of Loyd at Kells zoned for amenity purposes for sports clubs was withdrawn by Sinn Fein Cllr Michael Gallagher at a meeting of Meath County Council which was discussing a new county development plan for the next six years.

Cllr Gallagher told the meeting, held by zoom, that 300 acres in that area had been given to the people of Kells. The zoning of 50 acres would be a first step in providing badly-needed facilities for the clubs, he said.

The Council planner said that some of the lands referred to were not council lands but owned privately. In addition, the lands earmarked by Cllr Gallagher were not in proximity to the town of Kells. The council chief executive recommended that there be no change to zoning in that area and Cllr Gallagher then withdrew his motion.
