Tiger targets third Aintree title
Tiger Roll will be bidding for three-in-a-row at the 173rd Aintree Grand National on Saturday 10th April after some 106 entries were revealed today.
The Gordon Elliott-trained Tiger Roll was primed for a hat-trick bid in 2020 after winning for Davy Russell in 2018 and 2019, but the race was a victim of Covid-19.
The now 11-year-old tops the 106 entries and if successful would become the first to complete three-in-a-row and only the second triple Grand National winner after Red Rum (1973, 1974 and 1977).
The Tiger is the 16/1 favourite with Betway, official betting partner of the Randox Grand National Festival.
Gordon Elliott was also triumphant with Silver Birch (Robbie Power) in 2007, is the most successful current trainer in the Randox Grand National.
One more victory would see him join Fred Rimell and Ginger McCain as the most successful Grand National handler of all time.
Summerhill man Elliott has 16 entries – the most of any trainer while other Meath entries feature from Noel Meade, Tony Martin and John McConnell with 43 trained in Ireland and two in France.
Another entry from a woman with strong Meath connections is Magic Of Light (Jessica Harrington), runner-up in 2019 while Anibale Fly (Tony Martin) was fourth in 2018 and fifth in 2019.
