Another award for photographer Gerry Shanahan

Local photographer Gerry Shanahan has scooped another award for his snapping skills it was revealed yesterday on the Camogie Association website.

Both photos are included with this story, but will be reproduced in next edition of the Meath Chronicle in full size to enable the reader to get a better appreciation of the content of the photos.

The Camogie Association Media Awards and Mick Dunne Memorial Awards’ recipients across seven categories for 2020 were announced.

The 2020 photography award went to Gerry Shanahan for two photos from the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie semi-final tie at Clones between Meath and Down.

It's a second award in the space of a few months for Navan man Shanahan who last year was also honoured at the National Lottery-sponsored 2019 Local

Ireland Media Awards for a series of photographs at a Horse Racing Ireland open day at trainer John McConnell's Rockview Stables near Bellewstown.

That particular award was for Best Use of Photography by the Meath Chronicle - a kind of shared award, but on this occasion the popular photographer who has some 40 years experience of attending sporting events and sitting on sidelines around the country waiting for that 'perfect photo' that takes a keen eye and lots of patience.

For this accolade Gerry is a recipient in the Media Awards’ category and is one of only six winners.

The awards will be streamed online on the Camogie Association’s Facebook Page on Saturday 20th February, in conjunction with the Camogie Association Volunteer of the Year Awards.

A Meath man will also feature in the Volunteer Awards making it a good night for the Royal County.

Colm Whitty from Blackhall Gaels has been voted the Meath Camogie Volunteer of the Year for 2020 by the Meath Camogie Board.

This is the 15th year of the awards which honour the contributions of local and national press and volunteers in the promotion and development of Camogie.
