Santa had a training session at Navan RFC in the last few days

The Meath Chronicle can reveal in a special report from Navan RFC ahead of Christmas Day that Santa stopped off at Balreask Old in the last few days for a training session ahead of his busiest night of the year.

Santa was put through his paces by the Blue Dragons and Navan Minis.

He was very impressed by the all, even saying the Elves first 15 would find it hard to beat the skills and energy of the Navan players.

Ably escorted by club president Rosi Meegan (Mrs Claus!) Santa got to spend time with all of the squads and showed his keen interest in rugby by discussing his recent meeting with Leo Cullen and the Leinster coaches.

He told great stories to the Navan Minis about Irish greats like Cian Healey, Tadhg Furlong, Ronan Kelleher and Rory Best leading some to question if Santa was aware that there were any players behind the front row?

A former tight head in the North Pole Senior XV back in the in the day, he was literally head and shoulders above a team comprising mainly Elves (not a euphemism for half backs).

He then departed in fine form and looking forward to the night of the 24th December when he plans to return to the Navan area on his journey.
