What's making the headlines in this week's Meath Chronicle?

Good afternoon, hope you're all well this evening.

This week's Meath Chronicle hits the shelves shortly and we're leading with the contentious issue of one-off housing which could become scarcer than hen's teeth if proposals on planning regulations before Meath County Council this week get the green light.

Under the new proposals applicants in many parts of the county will need to own a minimum of 15 acres before being granted planning permission for a new dwelling.

We've more on the Meath County Development Plan too including cllrs' anger over Dublin Airport authorities "dictating" to Meath Co Council on the issue of noise zones.

The North-South interconnector pylon issue has exploded back onto the Meath County Council agenda this week when councillors called for all contracts and works to be suspended until there was an independent assessment into the feasibility of undergrounding cables is carried out.

Christine O'Mahony, the former Sinn Fein activist speaks out over the culture within the party that she says left her with no choice but to resign. Darren O'Rourke TD responds.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee speaks exclusively about her and husband's Paul's excitement at the news they are expecting their first child and why she fully expects to have to attend hospital appointments on her own given the current covid restrictions.

We've the touching story of a father-of-three who is running and walking one million steps for Focus Ireland. Julianstown man Colin McKenna says it's his way of giving back after he came close to homelessness himself after the last economic crash.

We've 16-pages of sports, 8 pages of entertainment and puzzles, and all your great columnists such as Paul Hopkins, Anne Cunningham, Gerry Meade and Gavan Reilly.

And we're also delight to say this weeks paper will sit alongside our superb new 'Christmas Cheer' publication this week (€3.95) - It's a bumper festive annual packed with interviews, nostalgia, tales from the archives, the photos of the year, quizzes and puzzles, Richard Corrigan's Christmas recipes and heartwarming messages from abroad. We hope you enjoy both.

Stay safe.
