Status 'Yellow' wind warning issued for border counties

Some sunny spells will develop into the afternoon, but “blustery heavy showers” will still occur.

A warning of strong south to southwest winds has been issued for countio in Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, with predicted gusts in excess of 90km/h.

That alert will be in effect from 4pm to 9pm.

National weather service Met Eireann is predicting conditions will remain “cloudy and damp” in many areas this Saturday morning, with scattered outbreaks of rain.

Some sunny spells could develop in the afternoon, but “blustery heavy showers” will still occur.

“Showers will merge into longer spells of rain across west and north, with the risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures will range 10 to 13 degrees Celsius. Southerly winds will be fresh to strong and gusty, near gale on western coastal areas.”

However, conditions are expected to clear by late evening, with some “clear spells” developing mainly in the northern half of the country.

“Further spells of rain and showers will feed in from the Atlantic overnight with a continued risk of hail. Mild to start with lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees occurring around dawn.”
