Your weekend weather update

A bright day today is forecast for today with scattered heavy showers and a risk of hail. The showers will ease in intensity during the morning and most areas will see good sunny spells, according to the latest bulletin from Met Éireann.

It will become cloudier from the west through the afternoon with rain developing on the west coast early in the evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Tonight outbreaks of rain will extend across the province, persistent at times. A clearance will develop with just some lingering rain on eastern coasts towards dawn. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong on coasts.

The national weather forecaster says tomorrow (Friday) lingering rain will clear eastern areas but further outbreaks of rain will continue through much of the day. Clearer spells with scattered heavy showers will follow in behind, merging to longer spells of rain at times with a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees. Moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds will be strong on coasts but will moderate during the evening.

The weather will continue unsettled through the rest of the week with spells of rain and showers. Mild for the time of year.

Saturday night will bring showers and some clear spells to start, mainly in the northern half of the country with drier conditions further south at first. Further spells of rain and showers will feed in from the Atlantic overnight with a continued risk of hail. Mild to start with lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees occurring around dawn. Southerly winds will moderate overnight but remaining strong on southern coasts.

Widespread showers are promised on Sunday and some longer spells of rain and risks of hail and isolated thunderstorms. There will be good sunny spells though. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, strong on southern coasts, veering westerly and freshening later.

Sunday night: A blustery night with further outbreaks of rain and showers with fresh and gusty westerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees, occurring early in the night.

Looking ahead to Monday, it should see a largely dry start to the day with some bright spells but becoming cloudier as outbreaks of rain and drizzle move into the north and west, becoming persistent at times, with patchier outbreaks further east. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. A band of persistent rain will move eastwards over the country overnight.

Current indications for Tuesday suggest a wet day with a mild start. It will become cooler during the day with further spells of rain and showers and some heavy falls in places.

Outlook: There is uncertainty in the outlook but conditions look set to remain quite unsettled.
