Troytown Chase success for The Jam Man
Eleven months ago The Jam Man landed a big Navan race when winning the €80,000 eCOMM Merchant Solutions Handicap Hurdle and today the Armagh-trained horse returned to take the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase in fine style.
Owned and trained by Ronan McNally, who got the horse for €10,000 after the man that owned him was fatally injured in a car accident, the winner was well clear at the post.
“I'd like to dedicate the win to Johnny O'Connor. He owned the horse before he was tragically killed in a car crash," commented an emotional McNally in a post-race interview with irishracing.com.
The Jam Man was well-supported with champion jockey Paul Townend on board and the duo had 18 lengths to spare at the post over the Gordon Elliott-trained Roaring Bull in second place.
However, Elliott was in double form winning the Grade 2 Lismullen Hurdle with Sire Du Berlais from French Dynamite and Noel Meade's Sixshooter - that trio are all entered in the Hattons Grace at Fairyhouse.
Elliott's other winner was Easywork in a beginners' chase for Sean Flanagan who was in double form winning the opener for Noel Meade on Joshua Webb.
